    Shallot-Sage Accordion Potatoes

To prep ahead, bake through step 2. Let cool, cover, and refrigerate, up to 2 days. Let sit at room temperature 1 hour before proceeding as directed.

    • Prep Time 30 minutes
    • Total Time 1 3/4 hours
    • Yield Serves 8

    Ingredients

    • 8 medium Yukon Gold potatoes (about 2 pounds)
    • 6 shallots, thinly sliced crosswise
    • Salt and pepper
    • 1/2 stick unsalted butter, room temperature, divided
    • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh sage leaves

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Make deep cuts into each potato, 1/4 inch apart, without completely cutting through. Place shallots in each cut (using about half the shallots) and season with salt and pepper. Arrange potatoes, cut sides down, in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish; dot with 2 tablespoons butter. Scatter remaining shallots around potatoes.
    2. Tightly cover dish with foil and bake until potatoes are tender, about 40 minutes, flipping halfway through.
    3. Uncover and bake 15 minutes. Meanwhile, combine sage and remaining 2 tablespoons butter. Increase oven temperature to 450 degrees. Top potatoes with sage butter; scoop up loose shallots and divide among potatoes, then bake until golden and crisp, 10 to 15 minutes more.

    Double Cranberry-Apple Sauce

    • 6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
    • 1 (12-ounce) package fresh cranberries
    • 1 small lemon, sliced and seeded
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 3/4 cup sweetened dried cranberries

    Preparation

    1. Stir together first 5 ingredients in a large saucepan; bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring often.
    2. Reduce heat; simmer, stirring often, 15 minutes or until cranberries pop and mixture starts to thicken. Remove from heat, and stir in sweetened dried cranberries. Cool. Cover and chill until ready to serve.
    3. Note: Mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

    Friday Recipe: Pink Ribbon Cookies

We’ve all done a variation of the classic fundraiser, the bake sale. But baked goods can be used for a much larger variety of activities than just bake sales. The key is to tie in your baked item to your cause, like making ribbon cookies. Serve them atbreast cancer fundraising events, sell kits to make sugar cookies at home (give all components along with a ribbon cookie cutter), or just make a batch to feed your volunteers.

Sugar cookies are easy to make but what makes them really special is that they are so easy to personalize, decorate and make unique. Dye the frosting pink for breast cancer fundraising.

Here is an easy recipe for sugar cookies, and some fun ways to personalize them for your cause.

    You will need:

2 3/4 cups all- purpose flour

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    1/2 teaspoon baking powder

    1 cup butter, softened

    1 egg

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Begin by preheating your oven to 375 degrees. Mix the baking powder, baking soda, and flour in a small bowl and set aside. In another bowl, mix the sugar and the butter until smooth. Beat in the egg and the vanilla then gradually add the dry ingredients . roll teaspoons of dough into balls or roll out and cut with a ribbon shapped cookie cutter. Place them two inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown. Allow the cookies to set for two minutes before serving or decorating.

Put a few drops of pink food coloring in vanilla frosting. If you put the icing in a Ziploc bag and cut a corner off, you have a hand, home-made piping bag.

Personalize the cookies by writing names of donors or sponsors on them, and then serve them at a walk-a-thon. Hand the cookies out as prizes for breast cancer fundraising games. The possibilities are endless to make these cookies unique for your event. Visit www.fundraisingforacause.com for more great fundraising ideas!

Welcome Knobe’s Office Supply to our Porter’s team!

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    October 1, 2012

PORTER’S OFFICE PRODUCTS, IDAHO OFFICE PRODUCTS DEALER, ANNOUNCES MERGER WITH KNOBE’S OFFICE SUPPLY IN JACKSON, WY

REXBURG, IDAHO—Porter’s Office Products, one of Idaho’s leading independent office products dealers since 1915, and Knobe’s Office Supply in Jackson, WY, have merged.

Knobe’s owner Chet Knobe will join the Porter’s organization and serve as account executive for its new Jackson customers.

The acquisition continues Porter’s aggressive expansion program which earlier this year saw the dealership acquire the commercial office products business of M&H Office Supply in Blackfoot, ID.

“We’re delighted to welcome Chet Knobe and Knobe’s customers to the Porter’s family and look forward to sharing with them our unique brand of Blue Cow service,” commented President Mark Porter.

Blue cows, he explained, are rare and unique, just like the outstanding customer service provided by the dealership the Porter family has operated for close to 90 years.

“We’re locally owned and proud of it,” Porter added, “but we also have the resources to meet and beat anything our big box competition might offer when it comes to pricing or breadth of product offering.”

In additionto providing free next-day delivery on over 37,000 office supply items, Porter’s also carries a broad offering of office furniture solutions, janitorial and cleaning supplies, promotional products and customizable items, as well as money-saving managed print programs.

ABOUT PORTER’S OFFICE PRODUCTS: A family-owned and operated business since 1915, with the fourth generation of the Porter family now at the helm, Porter’s Office Products is Idaho’s fastest growing office products dealer, with locations in Rexburg, Pocatello, Blackfoot, Logan, UT, and now Jackson, WY. Porter’s Office Products is the home of Blue Cow Service. Blue cows are rare, never before seen and unique, just like Porter’s. Even if a customer orders something outrageous like a blue cow, we will sit down and
think outside of the box in order to meet their needs. For more information,

with Three-Year Sales Growth of 76%

NEW YORK, August 21, 2012 — Inc. magazine today ranked Porter’s Office Products NO. 2926 on its sixth annual Inc. 500|5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy—America’s independent entrepreneurs. Unified Payments tops this year’s list. Porter’s Office Products joins Yelp, yogurt maker Chobani, Giftcards.com, KIND and famed hatmaker Tilly’s, among other prominent brands featured on this year’s list.

“We are honored to be apart of the Inc. 5000 again this year and are excited to continue to work toward continued growth and success in the future,” says President Mark Porter.

In a stagnant economic environment, median growth rate of 2012 Inc. 500|5000 companies remains an impressive 97 percent. The companies on this year’s list report having created over 400,000 jobs in the past three years, and aggregate revenue among the honorees reached $299 billion.

Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found at www.inc.com/5000.

“Now, more than ever, we depend on Inc. 500/5000 companies to spur innovation, provide jobs, and drive the economy forward. Growth companies, not large corporations, are where the action is,” says Inc. Editor Eric Schurenberg.
